In the Lower Mainland, there exists a shining example of compassion that brings warmth to the coldest corners of our community—the REALTORS Care® Blanket Drive. Originating in 1994 from the simple desire of Vancouver REALTORS® to make a difference, it has grown into a remarkable annual tradition of kindness that touches the lives of countless individuals facing homelessness and poverty.

Diana, with a heart as warm as the blankets she collects, humbly has stepped into the role of coordinating the Richmond/South Delta leg of this drive for many years. “It's not about one person; it's about the collective effort that warms the hearts and bodies of our neighbors, reminding us all that a small act of kindness can have a big impact,” Diana says.

Year after year, her dedication transforms her community into a hub of generosity, bringing holiday warmth to those who need it the most. With an inspiring commitment to their communities, REALTORS® have collected enough donations to help over 480,000 people in need. In the spirit of collective goodwill, it stands as a testament to the transformative power of small acts of kindness.

Steveston Santa Claus Parade

Richmond, B.C. – In a heartening display of community spirit and holiday generosity, the Steveston Santa Claus Parade dazzled local streets on Christmas Eve while gathering donations for the Richmond Food Bank. The parade, which marked its return after a long hiatus due to the pandemic, celebrated the season's joy as it embraced the spirit of giving back.

Sutton Seafair REALTOR® Diana Dickey and her husband Jerome, donned in delightful holiday attire with Jerome amusingly dressed as a gingerbread man, volunteered to ensure the parade's success. The couple's commitment to community service and their festive charm added an extra layer of magic to the event.

As Santa and his merry band wove their way through the streets of Steveston, Diana and Jerome actively engaged with the crowds, encouraging generous donations for the Richmond Food Bank. Their infectious enthusiasm and warm spirits resonated with parade-goers, creating an atmosphere of joy and goodwill.

The charitable drive symbolizes the true meaning of the holiday season: a time for giving and supporting those in need while neighbours exchange greetings and children marvel at the sight of Santa.

Dreams Take Flight

Richmond, B.C. – This month, 125 children with physical, mental, and social challenges were all smiles as they boarded a plane at YVR destined for a magical day at Disneyland. For 28 years, Dreams Take Flight Vancouver has provided free flights, theme park admission, food and chaperones. These trips are possible thanks to the generosity of donors, and the hard work of volunteers including Diana Dickey, a REALTOR® with Sutton Group - Seafair Realty.

“I got involved because I believe in the power of dreams,” Diana says. “Dreams Take Flight's mission to provide a once-in-a-lifetime experience to children facing challenges resonated deeply with me. I wanted to contribute to creating a day filled with happiness and unforgettable memories for these incredible kids.”

Diana volunteered during the prep and set-up days. During prep, she and other volunteers assembled backpacks filled with essentials for the children. On set-up day, she helped to transform the Air Canada hangar into a whimsical space.

“One of the most heartwarming moments is seeing the joy on the children's faces when they receive their backpacks,” she recalls. “Witnessing their excitement and anticipation is incredibly moving. The set-up day was equally special, with volunteers coming together to create an enchanting atmosphere, making every child feel cherished and special.”

For many of the young guests, this trip is more than just one amazing day—the experience expands their horizons and the positive shift in perspective can last a lifetime.

Dreams Take Flight (https://dreamstakeflight.ca) began in 1989, when several Air Canada employees in Toronto planned a trip to Walt Disney World for 70 children. Today, there are chapters of this charity in eight Canadian cities.

Dreams Take Flight Vancouver raises funds through corporate and personal donations, golf tournaments, barbecues, weekly raffles and the annual Gala for Dreams.
